We all know handwashing is important, but we might not think of it as the essential part of health and well-being that it really is. 
Proper hand hygiene reduces transmission rates of a wide range of diseases, but it also improves levels of school attendance, allows for the safe reopening of schools, and enhances human dignity.
Think of this day as an opportunity to come up with creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at important times.
Improving hand hygiene access is a joint effort; schools, healthcare facilities, workplaces, and other public settings all play a role. Lasting and meaningful change comes about through improvements in policy, planning, investment and monitoring.
