Protecting Against The Omicron Variant

Disinfecting High-Touch Surfaces Remains a Top Priority.

So far detected in California, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and more than a dozen other states, Omicron, the new variant of SARS-CoV-2, was recognized and named by the World Health Organization in late November.

CDC has been monitoring the situation, and currently Delta remains the most common strain here in the US. But that could change.

Upcoming research will shed more light onto the topic, but there is some concern that current vaccines might be less effective against Omicron, and that people who have already had COVID-19 might be especially susceptible.

Further details about the antibodies brought on by the vaccines and their effectiveness on Omicron will be available soon. But right now we do know that Omicron contains dozens of mutations that make it more contagious.

While knowledge about Omicron is constantly evolving, fighting this variant remains the same as before. Use these common tips1 to help slow the spread of this new variation.

    • Get vaccinated (and if eligible, get a booster as well)
    • If you have symptoms, get tested
    • Wear a mask in public places
    • Choose outdoors over indoors when possible
    • Wash your hands thoroughly and regularly
    • Practice physical distancing
    • Disinfect high-touch surfaces with an approved disinfectant.
